August Photo Roundup

From fun at the park and pool to our exploding garden and usual shenanigans at home, to the start of the school year and long-awaited visits with dear friends, August was a pretty great month!

Avalon skated into August with the generous gift of a brand new skateboard from one of Shaun's coworkers!

The kids went on a building bonanza one afternoon with blocks, cups and dominoes
The King of the Castle
Eddie and Ellie documenting the destruction of Avi's cup tower
Shaun poses with our new baby, fresh from the nursery
Planting our "Ruby Sunset" Maple on August 3, 2020!

View of our new tree from the street. Can't wait to see those ruby red leaves this autumn!
It took less than 24 hours for Avalon to cash in on a $5 prize Eloise offered to whoever could find her long-lost phone (my old one). Avi is posing in front of the "missing phone" signs Ellie (and her helpful little bro) made, photocopied and hung all over the house. So funny!
In case you were wondering, slime-making is still very much a "thing". I'm still waiting for that trend to die out...
Eddie "window shopping" for new Playmobil toys to add to his Amazon Wishlist
Another day, another few zucchinis. (As I write this, we're at 78 and counting!)
Single day garden haul! One of the biggest of the summer!
Dinner from the garden (plus fried cheese for good measure)
Another day, another walk in the park. That is Eddie in the distance, collecting rocks
Showing off his rock haul
Avalon threw a party for her baby doll's 1st birthday, complete with decorations, gifts, and cake (muffins, actually)...and naturally, she blogged about it. :) (Family and friends, feel free to request access to Avalon's new blog if she hasn't added you already.)
Ready to dig in to some birthday muffin! ;)
Avi and her babies
August 13, 2020...first day of school. Eddie was as excited as he looks in this picture. A month later, distance-learning Kindergarten has proved to be as pointless as I thought it would be.
(No disrespect to his teacher, who is great, but let's be honest... Eddie is a little boy genius who would benefit from the social interaction of Kindergarten moreso than a virtual lesson on ABCs.)
Avalon was actually a little excited for school to start (5th grade). She enjoyed distance learning in the spring and has said that her preferred school scenario would be a hybrid of on-site class a couple days a week, with the rest of the week's lessons done on the computer at home.
Didn't get a pic of Ellie at her desk on the first day (Mom Fail), but this is where she is doing her distance learning (3rd grade). This awesome loft bed with desk underneath was given to us by a friend of a friend!
An essential employee on the job. ;)
Eddie loves quizzing Avalon on her multiplication facts
Avi and Eddie loving up on Gizmo
Eddie spelled out everyone's name with magnet letters
This cat is one good sport!
The E's enjoying a lunch date with friends!
Our basil is out of control this year! I have sooo much pesto in the freezer!
Eddie having fun in the backyard
Just goofin' around :)
Another yummy dinner
Beating the heat in the neighbors' pool
The girls brought along their mermaid fin this time
:)
Eddie loves just floating around
We have a new baby in the house! LOL! Can you believe the size of this zucchini?!?!
It totally dwarfed a standard bottle of wine!
Grilling tri-tip for a dinner with friends
Dinner party!! It feels so good to be getting together with friends again!
Cookie Conga Line
LOL
A fun night always ends with Dads doing headstands
Who is this straight-haired young lady??
We ended the month with a birthday dinner for Nana on the 31st
Avalon baked the birthday cake and frosted it in fall colors in honor of Nana's favorite season :)
Happy Birthday, Nana!!

July Photo Roundup

As we entered our 5th largely home-bound month, the kids reached new heights of creativity (read: craziness) as they came up with new ways to entertain themselves. I LOL'd several times while looking through the photos I captured of all their antics! Fortunately, we were able to bookend our month at home with a couple trips out of town to visit grandparents. After our first 4th of July in Elk Grove (which was a bit anticlimactic after the cancellation of the annual fireworks show that usually takes place directly above our neighborhood), we set off for Corning for our first visit with Grandpa Steve since the pandemic began. We ended the month with a trip to Placerville, where we left the kids with Nana and Papa for a couple days while Shaun and I continued on to Reno for our first solo getaway of 2020.

4th of July BBQ dinner in our backyard
This is the only other pic I took on the 4th...Ellie having fun with the glow sticks that Dad brought home. Shortly after this we headed out to the court to enjoy a little fireworks show put on by some neighbors.
Beating the triple-digit heat the next day in Grandpa's pool in Corning
Eddie had a hair-raising experience on the trampoline
It seemed like Ellie grew 3 feet since our last trip to Corning!
LOL!

Back home in Elk Grove, Eddie poses with a portrait that Eloise drew of him wearing his Gekko mask (from the show "PJ Masks")
A game of dress-up (this time including a wig) always livens up a dull day
"Edna" Returns
"Will it Melt?" science experiment on a triple-digit day (Teacher Avalon's idea). Eddie and Ellie checked on their muffin tin of items several times over the course of the day.
Garden progress as of July 12
Another view... I love the ray of sunshine visible in this pic

The cucumbers LOVE their place in the sun
Lovely ladies all dressed up for the "Yule Ball" (Avalon's idea)
Eyeshadow is a must
Eddie wanted to attend the ball, too
He was allowed to participate with a clip-on necktie
They danced to music videos for over an hour!
Ready for a bike-riding lesson the park! Bye bye training wheels!
Coach Dad sure got his exercise on this day! Let's just say Eddie will need another lesson or two to master his two-wheeler. ;)
Hanging out in the shade, watching little bro learn to ride
Goofballs
Back at home, Avalon poses with the first ripe cherry tomato of the summer. Look how tall that plant is!!
The makeup looks got a little wilder as the month went on...
????
Eddie loves it when Ellie plays Barbies with him
Did I forget to mention that our new house came with the BEST kind of pool??...The kind that belongs to the wonderful neighbors next door, who encourage us to come over and use it whenever we want!
Soaking up some Vitamin D!
Playing with Orbeez (water beads)
Making shaped sugar cookies
Decorating is always the best part
Eloise hobbled around on crutches all day after suffering an ankle injury...
A close-up of the stitched-up wound...LOL
Afternoon Tea Party
Enjoying some ice cream truck treats at the park
Eddie brought a notebook to the park so he could sketch
More makeup weirdness
What the heck is going on around here??
We had our front lawn marked for utility lines before digging a big hole for a new tree! Pics to come...
Last pic from July...Shaun and I, out for sushi in Reno. Our first solo getaway of the year was a great way to end the month!
